The Star group has a large main room with areas dedicated to ICT, Role Play, Reading, Numeracy and Creativity. The main dining room is also available at specific times of the day for the children to participate in cooking and other small group activities. There are separate bathroom facilities with child sized toilets and sinks to encourage your child’s independence.
In the Star Group, children focus on all 7 areas of learning and staff help the children to prepare for the transition to school. This includes learning basic reading & writing skills along with personal and independence skills such as learning to change themselves for PE lessons.
Our Pre-School caters for children from age 3 until they go to school. We work closely with local schools to ensure a smooth transition for your child. We try to make the transition from nursery to school as smooth as possible and to this end we have a uniform being a polo shirt for parents to purchase for their child to wear.
The curriculum which we follow under the Early Years Foundation Stage ensures that children are prepared for school, and are developing knowledge and skills in the three primary areas : Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Activities which are exciting and fun, yet educational are planned by our Pre-School staff, to ensure that Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World, and Expressive Art and Design are all covered.
We aim to give the children the foundations of number work, pencil control and pre-reading skills which they will need when they go to school. There is a wide range of equipment and games aimed at developing skills in sorting by colour, shape, size and number. Pre planned activities and experiences give the children a solid foundation of skills. A computer is always available too, for the children to develop their IT skills, using a variety of educational software.
We aim for children to begin to write their own names, able to recognise a number of familiar letters and knowing and understanding their numbers up to 10. Most importantly, they will have developed an enjoyment of, and interest in, learning.
We aim for the children to become independent by encouraging them to dress themselves, serve their own food at mealtimes and to form positive relationships with their peers.
We use the amenities in the local village to take the children on outings, these have included a trip to the fire station, duck pond and use of the local train and buses. We also hold our annual sports day at Long Buckby Infant School.
We also offer experiences ready for school such as a French club and PE lessons!
Pre-schoolers are given the opportunity to share information and reading, project work etc., between Pre-school and home to ensure that parents/carers can be involved and informed of activities.
When it is time for them to go to school, information is passed through to their Reception class teacher at the chosen school in order that their education can be continued with as little disruption as possible.
